HeARTS with Haiti: a FUNdraiser at Gateway Yoga

January 25, 2010

Grayson and Meghan of The Pickle Mamas hosted a benefit for Hearts with Haiti at Gateway Yogain Raleigh this past Sunday. I was SEW EXCITED to make some items for the silent auction! The benefit brought in over $1000!

The Pickle Mamas made a video to spread the word:

Hearts with Haiti – Come Play! from Pickle Mamas on Vimeo.

The Pickle Mamas gathered with other helpers to craft felt hearts to be sold for a minimum of $1.

The Picklle Mamas have hearts!

Things haven't changed much since 2nd grade...

Cuttin' up!

Teacher and student, but which one is which?

Mama See Mama do and Pickle Mamas teamed up to create items to put in the silent auction. Teamwork didn’t seem work when crafting with these dill-icious mamas!

My new technique is sewing yarn to fabric using a zigzag stitch

"Excuse me, can you show me the way to the sweet potato stand?"

This bag is perfect for the Farmer's Market

The shirt begged me to make it into a market bag, and I obliged

Scrap hearts

Sew many possibilities to reconstruct these shirts!

I made butterflies out of scraps originally sewn as hearts.

Turned a J. Crew sweater into a butterfly bag

Place your bets! On sale for Haiti

I think you might have had your high school senior picture made in that yellow sweater.

this sweater is from Cause For Paws, but I know what sweater you’re talking about! It eventually wound up in the dryer and shrunk. Silly me should have known about felting sweaters!
